How to Make Stationery Templates in Microsoft Word The preformatted documents known as templates or stationery can be used as a jumping off point for your own work. Newer versions of Microsoft Word come with a number of templates. You can choose from one of those, make your own custom template using one of the available templates, or start from scratch to make a template.

Create a Template from Scratch

Step 1

Launch a new document.

Step 2

Create the document in a way that it can serve as a foundation for additional documents. Margins can be set, document styles can be made, etc.

Step 3

Click Picture from the Insert menu to include a picture in your template.

Step 4

Search through your computer’s storage for relevant clip art, borders, scanned photos, or other artwork, or copy & paste original work produced in another program.

Step 5

You can include any standardized text you desire in your template, such as a letter’s return address. Put the text in the desired format.

Step 6

Use the Save As option in the File menu to save the document as a template.

Step 7

Click Save after selecting the Document Template file type.

Double-click the template icon in the box that opens after selecting New from the File menu to open your new template.

Use the provided templates.

Step 1

Install templates using the Microsoft Word website, your Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office CD, or both.

Files should be copied to the Microsoft Office Templates folder on C:.

Launch Word.

From the File menu, choose New.

To view the available templates in the Preview window, click on the folder tabs, followed by the document icons.

An icon can be double-clicked to see a template.

To modify the template for your own work, simply adhere to the directions provided. If you like, you may also adjust the formatting.

Select the Save As option from the File menu to save the template.

The Document Template file type should be selected.

You can keep utilizing the template by repeatedly opening it because what you are truly doing when you do so is simply opening a copy of it. (Your changes are saved to the copy and not the original template when you save the file that you’ve opened.) You must select Save As rather than Save and the Document Template file type if you wish to make changes to the real template.
